Plant Dyeing with KnittyVet

This workshop will teach the basics of fresh leaf Japanese indigo dyeing and each participant should leave with the knowledge necessary to continue their journey with this fascinating plant!

Instructor: Kendra from KnittyVet

Cost: $75 includes class fee and all materials!

Dates: Saturday, August 30 from 10:00am-12:00pm

Level: No experience required!

Skills: Participants will learn some of the rich history of natural dyes, then use locally raised Japanese indigo to dye their own skein of wool yarn in a natural shade of blue. Participants will also be able to try leaf pounding and salt rubs as ways of obtaining color on different textile types.

Materials: Included in class fee. You will leave with a skein of freshly hand dyed wool yarn!

Please note: Your clothing may get a bit messy during the dye process, so please dress accordingly.

Bio: Kendra grows and prepares all natural (and organic) plant sources of dye that have been used by natural dyers stretching back hundreds and thousands of years. She uses these dye materials to create beautiful collections of yarn for all of her fiber loving friends and neighbors. She also teaches dye classes and is a member of the Three Rivers Fibershed, a group of shepherds, fiber growers, and plant dyers aiming to develop regional fiber systems that build soil health and protect the wellbeing of our biosphere here in Minnesota and regions beyond.
