Sonora Bag - Tunisian Crochet

Instructor: Nancy DeVries

Cost: $45 class fee + materials

Date: Saturdays, August 8 and August 22, 10:00am-12:00pm (two sessions)

Level: Prior Tunisian crochet experience required - Advanced Beginner. This is not a Learn to Crochet or Intro to Tunisian Crochet class. You need to be proficient in basic crochet and Tunisian crochet stitches, as well as how to hold and manage your yarn. This class is for participants ages 16+.

Skills: You will learn Tunisian Crochet Slanted Stitch, how to work with two colors, how to change colors, how to seam and finish the bag, and an overview of how to line your bag if you choose to do so. You may not finish this project in class, but will leave with the necessary skills to do so.

Materials: 10% off with class purchase. Please purchase project yarn at Rose Yarn Co.

• Yarn: Bulky weight yarn in 4 colors. Recommended: Malabrigo Vientos - 100% SW Merino wool, 130 yds/100 g. 
  C1 - 150 yds
  C2 - 40 yds
  C3 - 40 yds
  C4 - 50 yds
• Size 8mm Tunisian crochet hook (or size needed to obtain gauge) - ChiaoGoo T-Spin or KnitPro Dreamz
• 14" cable - ChiaoGoo Swiv 360 or KnitPro Swivel
• End stopper - ChiaoGoo (KnitPro cables include end stoppers)
• Single crochet hooks - Size L (8mm) for single crochet to seam sides, and Size K (6.5 mm) for single crochet around top
• Pattern: Sonora Bag by Alea Ellison - available for purchase in shop or on Ravelry. Please bring a printed copy to class
• Purse strap - we will discuss options in class
• Optional fabric for lining the inside of the bag

Instructor Bio: From Nancy - "My grandma was a master embroiderer and crocheter of lace edgings. She taught me at the age of 9 how to crochet. Since learning I have never not crocheted. I love trying new and intricate patterns or making things up on my own. I have done many baby blankets, sweaters, granny squares, dishcloths, scarves....  I have been crocheting 50+ years and have taught many others how to crochet."
