Pretty Boxes Sweater with special guest Cori Eichelberger of @irocknits

This Escher-esque short-sleeved cropped sweater is easily worn over dresses and high waisted pants. Or add length and long sleeves (instructions included) to make a lovely sweater to wear with jeans in the fall. Reminiscent of a fall sunset, the graphic boxes grow larger as the increases are worked down from the crew neck.

The traditional Norwegian “lice” (blips of color on the body) are optional but provide a bit of extra graphic design. For more information, see also Lusekofte, translated as lice jacket.

• The sweater is written for short sleeves and cropped version as well as long sleeve standard length.
• With lice stitches worked in the body or without; with striped ribbing or without.
• The sweater is worked from the neck down and has a circular yoke construction.
• Sleeve stitches are held to be picked up later and worked downward.
• The sweater is designed to be knit with 2-4” of positive ease.
• All colorwork has been charted. The sweater is knit using 4 colors.

Dates: Saturdays 10:00am-12:00pm, May 17, May 31, June 21, 2025 (3 sessions)

Level: Prior to this class, you need to be able to cast on, knit, purl, bind off, and read a pattern. No prior experience with stranded colorwork is needed. Adventurous advanced beginner. This class is for participants age 18+.

Skills: You will learn short row shaping, basics of colorwork knitting, how to read a chart, catching floats and tension, and yarn dominance. 

*Note: This class will require some pre-work. Make an "in the round" gauge swatch (please ask if you need help with this!) that is at least 5" x 5” using the colorwork chart from the pattern. Then wash your swatch and measure gauge. Optional: Cast on and work neck band.

• Yarn: 4 colors of DK weight yarn. Gauge is 22 stitches and 28 rows = 4 inches in Stranded colorwork and stockinette. There are a variety of yarns you may be able to get gauge with:
  - Rowan Felted Tweed
  - Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok
  - Madelinetosh Tosh DK
  - Cascade 220 SW Sport Merino or 220 SW Merino
  - Malabrigo Rios or Arroyo
  - Berroco Vintage DK or Vintage
  
• Needles:  Size US 7/4.5mm circular needle in a variety of lengths OR appropriately sized needle to get gauge with your chosen yarn 
  
• Stitch markers
• Notepad and pen/pencil

About the Instructor: Cori Eichelberger is a former high school English teacher for at-risk students, who she also taught to knit. She has over 20 years’ experience teaching beginning knitting and technique classes and her workshops are popular at yarn shops and retreats throughout the United States.

She co-authored the book Minnesota 52: 16 Knits Inspired by the Road in 2017. And in the Fall of 2020, published Knitwords: 8 Patterns and 10 Musings that Celebrate the Knitter.
