Building Blocks

“Building Blocks” is a series of 12 fun patterns over 12 months that will build your knitting skills. Starting with simple knit and purl stitches, your confidence will grow as you progress through several major knitting principles. Each block focuses on new stitches and techniques in a sequential fashion that “builds” upon the previously learned skill. Each block measures approx. 12” square. In month 13 we will assemble these blocks into a sampler throw/blanket.

As an added bonus, all the techniques featured in this book are supported with online video instruction that we will send you prior to class each month. This will prepare you for the techniques you will learn in class.

We will have a Kickoff Party on Saturday, March 25^th from 12:00-1:00 to answer allllll your questions and show you an example of the first block.

Instructor: Jenni Krosnowski + the Rose Yarn Co. team

Cost: $225 class fee (26 hours of classroom instruction) plus Materials (Approx $168 for yarn and book after 10% discount)

Dates: One class per month for 13 months, April 2023–April 2024.
Saturdays 9:00–11:00 am or Thursdays 6:00–8:00 pm (see list of dates below)

Level: Prior to this class, you need to be able to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. 

Skills: You will learn how to read charts, decreases/increases, SSK, make one, yarnover, bobbles, cables, slip stitch, right/left twist, seaming and more!

• Building Blocks pattern book by Michelle Hunter (Approx. $18)
• Size US 9 (5.5 mm) or 10 (6 mm) 24” circular needles (wood or metal)
• Stitch markers
• Locking ring markers
• Cable needle
• Row counter
• Crochet hook or fix it tool
• Highlighter tape/post-it tape/washi tape
• Notebook and pen
• Fabulous bag to put it all in
• Great attitude and maybe some chocolate

Please register for class and order/pay for materials by Saturday, March 25^th. The earlier you make your color selection and pay, the better chance you have of getting your first choice. Please have a second color choice in case stock is low.

If you prefer to do this sampler afghan in more than two colors, you may need additional skeins to guarantee enough of each color.  The amount used will depend on multiple factors, gauge, which block you make with which colors, etc.  

We will run two concurrent groups (choose ONE) on the last Saturday morning and last Thursday evening of every month, with some exceptions for holidays. There are no refunds for missed classes, but we will attempt to help you with missed content in shop when time allows.

Instructor Bio: Jenni Krosnowski has been knitting for 28 years. She is the former owner of Twisted Loop Yarn Shop in Prior Lake, a published designer, and has extensive teaching experience. Her favorite things to knit are socks, mittens and sweaters, and she LOVES colorwork and a good lace pattern.
